Sam with Precision Golf Works is a phenomenal club fitter and builder! If you need a new set of clubs or want your old ones worked on, this is the guy. I just started playing again after some time away from the game and just couldn't swing it like I used too. Sam and I talked about my game what was happening and what I wanted to happen for about 20 minutes. Then he watched me hit a handful of balls on his launch monitor. We went through a few different shaft/head combos and then quickly found what I was looking for. Only took one week for my clubs to come in and for him to build them to spec. I am already seeing drastic improvements in my game because I have something built exactly for me. Don't waste your time with the big box stores. Come see Sam. He is local and he is great at what he's doing at Precision Golf Works.Posted on JMonk MONKTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ex-professional building and fitting golf clubs for golfers of every level.
Do you really need that shiny new driver? Aaron Rai doesn’t. He just won the PGA Championship with a 7-year-old driver. If you were fit for your previous driver and it worked well, but all of a sudden it doesn’t perform as it did, odds are you need a retrofit. That is a test to make sure the shaft you have still fits you, as well as the loft and lie of the golf club. Driver and iron technology really haven’t changed in the past 5 to 10 years, even. So as the old adage says, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Now, of course, a new driver may be exactly what you need, but the way to find out is a retrofit.

What is the most important feature when getting fit for a shaft? Some say weight. Some say flex. The answer is profile. You can have the same weight and flex of a shaft, but a different profile will dictate how well you hit the golf ball. Thanks to deep research by shaft manufacturers, they have found that the bend profile of a club is vitally important for fitting golfers with different tempos and releases, regardless of swing speed. The next time you get fit, discuss the shaft profile with your fitter and let them know what you are looking for in ball flight so you can get the most out of your golf game.

Can moving the weights around in your putter help your stroke? I’ve done a lot of fittings for putters, and those who have issues with under- or over-rotation, moving the weights in different positions, can really improve their stroke and face angle at impact. This works well not only with toe-hang putters but also with face-balanced putters. The reason is that pretty much every stroke has a little arc, and therefore some rotation. Some people have issues with rotation, whether it's leaving the face open or closed, so moving the weights around can help with that. If you leave the face open, add some weight to the heel. If you over-rotate and have the putter face closed at impact, add some weight to the toe to help slow down the rotation. It’s not a cure, but every little bit helps, as this game is hard enough.

Another myth out there that can cost you strokes and money is that name-brand clubs are the best for you. Absolutely not. In fact, in some cases, the brands that sell only to club builders or are direct-to-consumer brands make, in my opinion, clubs that are just as good as the name brands. This is not to knock the quality of the name brands, as they make very high quality golf clubs. This is to let you know there are other options for premium-quality golf clubs at a much lower price. Especially with how expensive this game has become, and how much everything is growing in cost. Let me know if you play “non-name-brand” clubs, what they are, and how much you like them.

A fitting is essential in golf to ensure you have the right equipment to get the best out of your game. Just like you would never buy a suit or get a wedding dress without having a proper fitting, the same is true with golf. Unfortunately, people out there are getting improper fittings, which will hurt your game and turn you away from fittings. I talk about things that are red flags that, if the fitter is doing or not doing, you could get a bad fit and not get the equipment necessary to have you playing your best golf. Leave your questions and comments below to start the conversation, but make sure you're properly fit.

Does your swing speed dictate what flex shaft you should be using? For the most part, no. One reason is that one company’s stiff is another company’s regular, and the same is true for different model shafts within the same company! What really matters most in a shaft and in finding one that fits you is the weight and overall profile. If that matches your swing and helps you hit the ball more consistently in the center of the club-face with the right launch and spin, who cares what letter classification is on the shaft? Good fitters know this and will not stay in a box to make sure you get the right combination of clubhead, loft, face angle, lie, shaft weight, shaft profile, and, eventually, flex that fits you.

Do modern golf clubs hit the ball further? For the most part, the answer is no, especially in the irons. The golf industry needs you to see increases in distance over time, so what have they done? They have tweaked the lofts and lengths of our golf clubs. Over the past 30 years or so, we’ve gone up two numbers in our irons. What happens? We have to buy hybrids and fairway woods at the top end of our bags and more wedges at the bottom edge to fill the gaps that have been created. Know this when you are going to a fitting, especially if your goal is more distance. What really helps with distance is the shaft and getting it lighter and with a softer flex. Getting the shafts that match modern golf clubs will help tremendously and help you shoot lower scores.
